Trujillo & Huanchaco

Friday 13th May

Arrived into Trujillo about 07:00 this morning. I met some English backpackers in the bus terminal and we all made our way downtown to the main plaza. Slept really well on the nightbus last night (for a change) so I was looking forward to a day of walking around Trujillo. I decided to head a few kms outside of town to a small beach resort call Huanchaco and find a hostel there. I checked into ´My Friend Hospedaje´  (15 Sols per night .. private room .. what a bargain). Nice hostel with cafe/restaurant downstairs and local buses pass by the main street every 5 mins to bring you into Trujillo for about 1.50 Sol.

Walked around town for the morning and then caught a local minibus out to see 2 archaeological sites of the Moche (100BC to 800AD) and Chimu cultures (800AD - 1400 AD) both of which predate the Incas. First I went to La Huaca Arco Iris

... and later to Las Huacas del Sol y de la Luna museum and site.

I went back into Trujillo centre between visiting the 2 sites to do some sightseeing around the town.

It was late in the evening when I got back from the 2nd Archaelogical site (Huaca de la Luna) so I didnt spend too long in the city and made my way back to Huanchaco.

Saturday 14th May

This morning I went to see some more historic sites .. first was a vist to Huaca Esmeralda followed by a visit to Chan Chan archaeological site (Tschudi Complex) and museum. Nothing much to see in Huaca Esmeralda but Chan Chan was worth the visit.

Later I visited the local cemetery oustide Huanchaco.

Spent the rest of the afternoon and evening walking around Huanchaco and down by the waterfront promenade.

Sunday 15th May

I checked out of my hostel this morning and got a local bus downtown so I could get a connecting bus heading north to Chiclayo (209km, 4 hours).
