Las Grutas

On Wednesday 10th, I was leaving Bahia Blanca but as my bus wasnt until midnight, I had to hang around the town for the day which was pretty uneventful. Met a lovely couple (Manuel & Josie) from Brazil before I left the hostel that night.

I took a taxi to the bus station later and got my bus heading to Las Grutas which is another 400km south of Bahia Blanca. Overnight bus again .. and arrived in Las Grutas on Thursday 11th at 7am.  Was well impressed with the nice hostel in Las Grutas:

I had a 6 bed dorm all to myself with ensuite toilet/shower ... wow. Luxury! Antonia, the lady who ran the hostel gave me a key for the place and said to just come and go as I feel like it. I think on the first day I was the only guest in the hostel. On the 2nd day I met a French girl, but in general the place was very quiet and empty. I eventually found out I was in Las Grutas in the off-season and in January this little town is apparantly mental busy as a seaside resort. The town itself had loads of clubs, restaurants and bars (all of which were closed). Its Springtime here so I reckon if I came back in about 2 months it would be a great spot. Beach here is lovely too. ´Las Grutas´ means the ´Grottos´ becuase of the caves the sea water make in the rocks on the coast. Most of the streets here arent even paved .. they are just dirt tracks which gives it the feel of a little country town in the middle of nowhere. There seems to an abundance of stray dogs here for some reason ...not sure if that unique to Las Grutas or not but these dogs are massive and scary!

On Thursday afternoon I took a long 10k walk on the beach and came back to the hostel for a relaxing evening. Shattered tried!

Friday was relaxing too. Some sunbathing and more walking. Went shopping and made myself some dinner back at the hostel and chatted to Antonia the hostel manager and drank some ´mate´. Im beginning to like that drink! Heres a picture of Antonia and her niece:

Had the dorm to myself again on Friday night which was great. I´m back on the road again tomorrow (Saturday 13th) heading south again to my next stop Puerto Madryn, 250km south of Las Grutas.
