Buenos Aires Days 6-9

Thursday 4th Nov

I got the subway out to Recoleta to meet with Shell and Lorraine. We all shared a cab out to the airport. Was very sad to see Shell go. Was great to have the company for the past 2 weeks and it was only on the bus ride back into the city that it hit me that I was now in Argentina on my own. Met a nice French couple who had just arrived into BA and was chatting with them all the way back to BA. Its a damn long bus journey. Taxi is not too bad into town but they charge about Arg $90. Public bus is only Arg $2 but it goes everywhere. Worth saving the money though if you are not in a rush.

Thursday was a relaxing afternoon. I found a nice internet cafe in town who copied memory cards to dvd which was so handy, took a trip to the post office and I went down to Retiro bus station and booked my tickets to Bahia Blanca on Sunday night (overnight coach). Also confirmed my hostel reservations. Checked in for 3 nights, Monday -Thursday.

Friday

Have got chatting to so many people in the hostel its simply not possible to start naming them all here. Definitely made my last few days in BA really enoyable to the point that I actually felt really at home in the Hostel Inn. Even when I left the hostel in the mornings and went off for the morning and came back, it was like coming back home as I knew everybody who was staying in to hostel. I spent most of Friday rambling about doing absolutely nothing ... just a relaxing day off. Cooked myself pasta for dinner and have taken to eating lots of fruit as Im going to have to cut down on eating out or else I wont be able to keep myself here till Christmas! My flu is getting better thank God. I just hope its stays away for good now.

Myself and a few friends (Yvette and Andy from UK, Abdul from Sierra Leone, Andrew from San Francisco and Vanessa from Germany) all headed out to a pub quiz in a place called ´Bar de la Tribu´in a district west of BA. Good craic. Loads of pizza and beers.

Saturday

After breakfast, myself and Vanessa went for coffee and a walk around San Telmo. We both had tickets for the Boca Jrs match tonight so we killed some time for the afternoon. We went shopping for dinner and then headed back to the hostel. We were picked up about 17:00 and joined loads of others on the bus down to ´La Boca´. Walking tour of Caminito first:

We were then brought to ´La Bombonera´ (Boca Jrs stadium) about 19:00. Game kicked off at 20:30 against Argentinos Jrs. Boca got beaten 2-0 but was a great experience. Only wish I could speak Spanish as the fans were just mental singing for the whole match.

Sunday

My last day in Buenos Aires :-(

The other day I was looking forward to moving on and getting out of the city but am definitely going to miss this place. I got up early and took a walk down to Puerto Madero and just ate ice pops and sunbathed all day. Today being Sunday all the local Portenos (local BA residents) were out sunbathing and eating BBQ´s. I took a walk out further to the ecological reserve and the Rio de la Plata. Walked for miles and miles. Absolutely scorching sun. Only realised it when I got back how burnt I got. Loads of aftersun!

I didnt get back to the hostel till about 19:00. Ordered a taxi for 21:30 and made some pasta and had dinner with a few friends from the hostel before heading off to catch my overnight bus to Bahia Blanca. Would have liked to have stayed longer now that I have met some really nice people in BA but maybe we will meet again on our travels. A few of them are also heading down South too, so who knows ...

Bye bye Buenos Aires ... see you soon :-)
