Copacabana & Isla del Sol

Thursday 7th April

Arrived into Copacabana at 11:30. No accommodation booked but we found a great hostel called ´Hostel Sonia´ for only 30Bs each .. private room ensuite.

After checking in, we spent no time hanging around and decided to see the sights of Copacabana ... Horca del Inca, Intikaka and the Basillica.

A few pictures of the sights and streets of Copacabana:

Later we booked our tickets for our night bus tomorrow evening to Arequipa (120Bs) and also our boat tickets (20Bs return) for tomorrow morning to do a tour of Isla del Sol (Island of the Sun) on Lake Titicaca. After relaxing for a coffee on the lakefront we then walked up Calvary hill for the sunset and a great view over Copacabana bay and Lake Titicaca.

It was a long day trekking and walking around Copacabana. We got back to the hostel about 19:30 ... and were back out about 20:00 and went for dinner and a walk around the market stalls on the streets.

Friday 8th April

Another early start ... 07:00. Checked out of ´Hostel Sonia´ and had breakfast on the way down to the waterfront to catch our 08:30 boat over to Challapampa on the northern side of Isla de Sol on Lake Titicaca. Myself and Neil met a Belgian girl called Ruth on the boat over and when we arrived at 10:30 the 3 of us began our trek of the island. Ruth was staying over night on the southern end of the island but as myself and Neil had tickets for the 15:30 boat back to Copacabana we couldnt hang around too much. As it turned out, we were ok for time and made it down to the village of Yumani on the south of the island by 14:30 .. enough time to relax and have some lunch before we headed back to Copacabana.

A few pictures from our day on Isla de Sol:

We departed at 15:30 and were back by 17:00. We headed straight back to the hostel to collect our backpacks and went back downtown to catch our 18:30 bus to Puno,Peru (125km) and onwards from Puno to Arequipa (292km). We met a couple, Alfie and Katie from England who were also on the same bus to Puno and also making the connection to Arequipa and as it turns out also had accommodation booked in the same hostel as myself and Neil (we actually met them a few days earlier briefly in La Paz).

We took a minibus to the border where immigration was pretty painless and then took another bus for 2.5 hours on to Puno, Peru where we had a one hour wait for our connecting bus to Arequipa, Peru.

Will miss Bolivia ... some great times there. Looking back its hard to believe I spent about 7 weeks there ... but not long enough .. I could easily do 7 months.
